Teppen (officially stylized as TEPPEN) is a free-to-play collectible card game (CCG) developed by GungHo Online Entertainment for iOS and Android devices.[1][2] It features characters from several Capcom franchises, having Mega Man X, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter and Darkstalkers at launch, and latter adding content from Ace Attorney, Asura's Wrath, Bionic Commando, Breath of Fire, Cannon Spike, Captain Commando, CROSS×BEATS, Cyberbots, Dead Rising, Dino Crisis, Dragon's Dogma, Exoprimal, Gaia Master, Gaist Crusher, Ghost Trick, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Haunting Ground, Last Ranker, Lost Planet, Mega Man, Mega Man Battle Network, Mega Man Legends, Mega Man Zero, Megami Meguri, Onimusha, Ōkami, Otoranger, Power Stone, Quiz Nanairo Dreams, Red Earth, Rival Schools, Sengoku BASARA, SonSon, Star Gladiator, Strider, Under the Skin, and Viewtiful Joe.

Gameplay

TEPPEN is both a real-time and turn based card game. By default, the game is played in real time where "Unit Cards" are placed on the field to deal damage to the enemy Hero, the opponent can then place another Unit Card on the same row to block the incoming damage and protect their Hero.

When an "Action Card" is used, the game will then turn into a turn based system where players have to wait for their opponent to play a card or select "Resolve" to go back to the real-time gameplay.

Aside from the cards, each Hero has three special abilities dubbed as "Hero Art", these Hero Arts are powerful abilities that can turn the tide of battle quickly with their high burst of damage or healing capabilities. Only one Hero Art can be selected when creating a deck of cards, and only 30 cards are allowed in one deck.

All Heroes in the game will have 30 HP regardless of their level. There are currently three ways to win a match in TEPPEN, by either taking the enemy into 0 HP, having a higher HP number than the opponent when the time runs out, or when the opponent runs out of time while under the effect from cards like Monstrous Virus (DON 075).

Development

According to an interview with GungHo CEO Kazuki Morishita and Capcom executive producer Ryozo Tsujimoto during Anime Expo 2019, TEPPEN had been in development since at least 2017. Tsujimoto was a fan of Puzzle & Dragons, a popular puzzle game developed by GungHo. Because of this, he wanted to get in touch with someone in the company, and eventually met Morishita. At first, their meetings weren't about making a new game, however, the idea came to mind eventually and Morishita stated that he'd like to have multiple Capcom IPs in the game. As GungHo had a high amount of experience in the mobile market, it was the perfect choice for Capcom as they wanted to make TEPPEN a mobile game.[3]

Release

The game released on the 4th of July, 2019, but only in the United States, Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain with information on additional releases to be revealed at a later date.[4] On August 5, 2019, TEPPEN was released in Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Thailand.[5][6]
