Avenger (必殺 無頼拳; Hissatsu Buraiken; also spelled Avengers) is an overhead-view vertically scrolling beat 'em up arcade game released by Capcom in 1987. The game was developed by the duo of Takashi Nishiyama and Finish Hiroshi, who later created the original Street Fighter fighting game and, after leaving Capcom and joining SNK, created a few of the latter company's early fighting games.
It was later included on Capcom Classics Collection: Remixed for the PSP and Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox and the 2013 compilation Capcom Arcade Cabinet for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Gameplay
The game takes place in Paradise City, where the villain, "Geshita", has captured six girls from the city. The player(s) objective is to banish "Geshita" from Paradise City once and for all. During the game, the player can find and collect power-ups like the "Speed Up", the Super Punch, Grenades, Shurikens, Nunchaku and extra health.
The playable characters have three normal means of attack:
- Punch: - Quick with short range.
- Kick: - Slower with longer range.
- Roundhouse: - Hits in a 360 degree motion.
Story
The tough and heroic duo of the story both continue their journey as wandering vagabonds. One is named Ryū (隆) who wears a teal tank-top with blue jeans, the other is named Kō (康) who wears a gold tank-top with green jeans.
One day, their hometown, Paradise City, is attacked by the Geshita gang, and the women of the city are kidnapped by them. In order to restore peace to the city, the two wipe out the Geshita gang in Paradise City, and then confront the gang's leader, Geshita, at his hideout.
Trivia
- In-game, Ryū's tank-top is teal; while in his artwork illustrations, his tank-top is instead white.
- Ryū and Kō are both precursor characters to both Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter (1987), as well as Guy and Cody from Final Fight (1989).
- "Hissatsu Buraiken" (the game's Japanese name) was later used as the name for one of Street Fighter character Dan's Super Combos.
- The game was once briefly parodied on one scene in the 2004 Hong Kong film Kung-Fu Hustle, during the final battle where Sing battles the entire Axe Gang with kicks and roundhouses.
