Apollo Justice, known as Housuke Odoroki in Japan, is a main character in the Ace Attorney series of mystery visual novel adventure games. He is the protagonist of the fourth game, a playable main character in the fifth and one of the protagonists in the sixth game.

Story

The new defense attorney protagonist for the fourth Ace Attorney game, Apollo gets his start defending legendary ex-lawyer Phoenix Wright in the courtroom while under the tutelage of his mentor Kristoph Gavin. After Kristoph is arrested, Phoenix (who becomes Apollo's new mentor) offers him a job at the "Wright Anything Agency". Apollo uses his "chords of steel" to loudly assert his cases in the courtroom, though he is often reprimanded for this. He once told his assistant, Trucy Wright, that he often wakes up early to practice (although it normally just makes his voice raspy). Apollo is also the half-brother of Trucy, but both are currently unaware of this fact.

The bracelet Justice has helps him to read subtle changes in body language and expose lies from witnesses. When Justice feels his bracelet getting tighter during a cross-examination, he knows to focus on the witness. He inherited the bracelet from his mother.

Apollo returns as a playable character in the latest installment of the Ace Attorney series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. At one point in the game, he is injured; both his arms and his right eye are swathed in bandages, and he sports a slightly tattered long blue coat that hangs from his shoulders over his usual apparel. He had a brief falling out with Wright due to the death of his friend in one of the cases they handled, having been clouded with doubts until this was cleared up.

He eventually parts ways with Wright in good terms to form his own law office, being inspired by his mentor to be a defense attorney.

Other appearances

Apollo Justice's likeness appears in the game We Love Golf! as an unlockable cosplay outfit for Jack.

Apollo and Klavier Gavin make a cameo appearance in the anime adaptation of Lucky Star.

Apollo, Phoenix, Maya and Rayfa Padma Khura'in appeared as guest cards in Puzzle & Dragons.

Trivia

• His first name comes from the Greek and Roman god Apollo who represent (among other symbols) the light, sun and truth. His first name was also chosen to rival Phoenix's first name which also originates from mythology.
  • His last name is a nod to his job and also references how Apollo fights for justice.
  • During the localization of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, other first names that were considered included Arthur and Justin (a play on justice). His last name was "at the top of the list" but two other names considered were Swift (as in the bird, and also to imply that justice is swift) and Startel (as a parallel to his Japanese name, which phonetically sounds the same as the word for "surprise").

• Apollo was voiced by Capcom designer Koujiro Ogiwara in the Japanese version of the fourth game.
• His Japanese voice actor, Kenn, is well known for voicing Jaden Yuki (Judai Yuki) in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
